Good weekend if you're a Panthers fan

Well weekend one is over and what a weekend, well it was if you were a fan of the Nottingham Panthers. A great start with two super wins against fellow title contenders.

I said in my previous Blog with you that I was impressed with Corey after speaking to him last Thursday. Corey has slightly changed the way his Panthers team play but has kept that high octane, high intensity and entertaining style of play.

When Nottingham went down 2-0 on our live show (did you enjoy it by the way?) I was slightly concerned however neither my self or any of the 5000 plus in attendance should have been.

Led by Neilson and the returning Mathew Myers the Panthers looked solid, looked comfortable on the puck, skated well and played like they had been together all year.

Before the SKY games I ask the coaches for their line ups. On Saturday Rick, Thommo and I stood in the car park discussing both teams lines up.

One line stood out as a complete miss match, a complete error by Corey. This kid Billy Ryan playing alongside Matt Myers and David Beauregard. Now David needs the puck, he needs a centre who dishes, who can find him all over the ice.

Myers is a great player, a bull, but he isn't a disher and this line was certainly due to fail. Corey you have made a mistake here we all thought.......

How wrong were we. The Myers line not only led the way back for the Panthers on Saturday and then went on to dominate what is regarded as the best defence in the league for the remainder of the game.

24 hours later the trio were back at it again as they single handily took on and destroyed a Coventry side that looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

Now I was not a massive Beauregard fan in Manchester, yes I know he scored a million goals there and of course he was and is a good player, but I didn't buy this all things to all people halo that followed him.

On Saturday I thought he had his best game in Britain, that was until Sunday, he seemed more involved, more a collective part of the team not just the end product. He killed penalties and killed them well.

It seemed like Messrs: Neilson and Mehyers had helped unearth a new Beauregard and in the process have found a willing workhorse in Ryan to sit alongside them.

In both games those three cycled and dominated, they took apart two great teams and did it in a very un Nottingham style. It's that new style that worries me, Nottingham scrapped and played hard. They never stopped working, they never stopped digging and yet still had all the good things to show as well, that speed and that flare.

Now before you start thinking I've lost the plot and gone all Nottingham crazy I still have a couple of question marks. 1) I haven’t seen enough of the goalie, he looks OK but not a stud and 2) we have been here before with the Panthers

Fast out of the blocks, off to the mother of all starts only to fall when the winter months set in.

I hate to say though but this Nottingham side might be the one that has the best chance of breaking the mould.
