I was impressed with Hull

I was impressed with Hull

Hey everyone a few things I want to talk about. Firstly I was there last night as the Steelers beat Hull 6-3. I have to say while I was impressed with Hull I think a full Steelers line up may have won by a bigger margin. Sylvain Cloutier has said since that there were positives for them and there were but i think Sylvain knows that the challenge cup is not his main concern when he says that. Decent effort though and last night just confirmed to me that Hull are capable of making the playoffs like I said last week.

The next thing I want to comment on is Fans forums. Now over the last week or so I have seen 2 things that made me chuckle. Firstly people who slate Kevin Bolibruck. Most of the comments I read last week were saying Bolibruck should do this he should do that. Today i read that someone was slating Steve Munn but this time a lot of the comments were leaping to Munner's defence unlike what was said about Bolibruck. Now its a fan forum and people can say what they want within reason but what I read next had me laughing my head off. Apparently Steve Munn and Kevin Bolibruck are not buying into Ben Simon's plan! What a joke. A bad joke at that. Ben Simon wants to win trophies. If he didn't he wouldn't be coaching or playing. That is his plan. Now if you are telling me that the 2 players in question are not trying to do everything possible to win your out of your head.  My opinion on the 2 players in question are as follows. Bolibruck lacks speed yes but he is an older player know and that is no surprise. The same applies for Steve Munn. They both however have Championship experience that you just can't buy. Munn is very physical which buys into what Ben Simon is doing just watch the coach and you draw that conclusion. The trade off from this is that while Steve hammers a guy it can take him way out of position. Bolibruck seems to be forcing the break out pass. Again this is because all the d men are doing it because Simon wants a quick transition game from defence to attack. The trade off here is that he gives the puck away a lot. The thing is our d looks bad at times. Why is that? Well we are looking to be an aggressive offensive team. As it seems are the rest of the league. The whole back end is looking weaker because the whole team is looking to be stronger going forward it has to give somewhere, at times you are going to get caught.

The other thing that caught my eye this week was fellow blogger Elliott Stanley's comments about Lepine-gate. Now I understand the frustration in Nottingham. Andy Carson is not the greatest ref in the world but as for the Lepine hit I don't see the problem. Checking to the head is a big no no worldwide these days. Whether he intended it or not he did it. I don't see the problem. I think the real problem which Nottingham can't accept is that their team bottled it again. Lepine, Galbraith and Penner cost them that game because they lacked self control, end of story. In Galbraith's case it’s a recurring theme. I seem to remember the protesting chicken dance from the playoffs a year or two ago. The guy I feel sorry for is Corey Neilson his players let him down last week. Nottingham always seem to have an excuse as to why the don't win the big games when they lose. To their credit they turned things around in Braehead last night.

Finally we play Braehead for the first time this weekend. I am really looking forward to that. Bruce Richardson has put together a team that can compete, another test of Steelers championship credentials.
