My EIHL All-Stars for 2010-11

Hey everyone sorry I haven't blogged for a while, I’ve had a busy start to 2011. So much has happened recently. A three horse race has emerged for the league title with Nottingham falling back from the pack. Hull keep threatening to challenge Coventry and Braehead in the battle for 5th and Edinburgh poor Edinburgh seem on the verge of falling into oblivion. Today however I don't wish to talk about that. Today with the NHL All Star game just around the corner I thought it would be appropriate to talk about our all stars here in the Elite league. So I give you my all star line up for the season so far.

Goaltender:
Well deciding on a goalie is a tough choice. You basically have to decide who you think is the best in the league. Now in the past I have often said that the standard of goaltending in this country has dropped in the last couple of years and I stick by that. That does not mean however that we don't have some good goalies there just isn’t in my mind a goalie that can win you a championship. Anyway to my choice. I am going to go with Ervins Mustukovs. If you look at it statistically he is a country mile ahead. He leads the league in almost every category and has just broken the league shut out record with still 2 months left in the season. Ok he is on one of the strongest teams in the league and 4 of his shut outs have come against one team (Newcastle) but when you look at his save percentage which for me is the true measure of a goalie he is still number one. So he gets in for me.

D men:
The first of my two D men is the most obvious selection anyone could make. Craig Weller gets my pick. He is without doubt the signing of the season. When he came to Cardiff they were a team who frankly at that time had underachieved. Now they are the top team in the league. That says a lot but what I like about him is the fact that in this league he is giving his all. There are other ex NHL players who if I am honest I think could do more. Some players could rip this league up if they really wanted too and yet they just prove to be good players. Mr Weller keep doing what your doing. My second choice was more difficult. The league in general has become more offensive so good defence is perhaps noticed less. So I am going to go with Belfast's Jon Gleed. A big man who clears the front of the net and is generally steady.

Forwards:
Jon Pelle picks himself. He came to this league with not much of a reputation but had won a CHL playoff championship. Now he is regarded as one of the top snipers in the league. 40 goals in 43 games has elevated him to be top in goals and points. He is small, fast and very skilled and along with Weller and co could be on course to win the Devils the league.

With him I pick Steelers stalwart Joey Talbot. Joey is a proven winner for one but this year he is really producing top numbers second only to Pelle. His crowning moment was over the Christmas period when he put the panthers to the sword with 6 points over the 2 games.

My final spot on the forward line goes to Panthers Jade Galbraith who for my mind is the most gifted offensive talent in the Elite league. He may not be quite the top in terms of the scoring charts but is without doubt the Panthers go to guy. He was benched in Belfast and there have been rumors of him leaving the Panthers but all that aside he is still a human highlight reel in this league.

Well that’s my picks who are yours?
