The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.

Hello and welcome to a new mini series of blogs about players who once graced the British Elite league but now ply their trade elsewhere. I will start by talking about a player who first came to this country to play in the old BNL. Peter Campbell a 5' 9” left shooting centre from Gloucester, Ontario, Canada played for the Basingstoke Bison during the 2002/2003 season. A solid year registering 51 points in Britain's second league earned Campbell a move to the Hannover Indians of the German 3rd Division. Campbell led the team in scoring and came back to play for Bracknell in the BNL in 2004/2005. Here again he was top scored playing on a team that boasted Lukas Smital, Matus Petricko and Martin Masa. He then returned to the German 3rd Division where he spent two years playing for EV Ravensburg. Also a member of that team was former Sheffield Steeler Dion Del Monte. The 2007/2008 season would be Campbell's most prolific and last season in Britain. He returned to Basingstoke at the start of the season after he scored 13 points in 8 games he and Stevie Lyle were allowed to transfer to the Belfast Giants as the Bison were in financial difficulty. It was as a Giant that Campbell impressed most in this country. He registered a huge 78 points in 43 league games in Northern Ireland. A year with Rodorve Mighty Bulls in the Danish top league followed where he was a point a game player. Former Nottingham Panther Sean McAslan and current Belfast Giant Ryan Crane were among his team mates while in Denmark.
Campbell has spent the last two and a half seasons in the Italian Serie A2 with HC Eppan/Appiano Pirates. They were founded in 1981 and play in the town of Appiano which is about 12 km from Lake Como in Northern Central Italy. Appiano is also the location of Inter Milan's training ground. The clubs home rink has a capacity of 1400. The current coach is Finland's Jarno Mensonen. In Campbell's first season in Italy he was the leagues top goal scorer with 33 strikes and point scorer with a total of 72. That season ended with a playoff championship for Campbell and his team. Three other former Elite league players were a part of that championship team. Campbell's former Basingstoke team mate defence man Eric Braff was joined on the blue line by Jonathan Coleman who had short spells with Nottingham and Coventry. Also on that team and probably a line mate of Campbell's was Joe Tallari who scored 86 points in his one season with the Manchester Phoenix. In 2010/2011 he improved on his offensive out put. He was league top goal scorer this time with 41 goals. In that second season former Hull Stingray's d-man George Halkidis joined the club. Finally this season has once again seen Campbell show an offensive touch. Despite Campbell being 32 now he has still notched up 21 goals and 58 points in 25 games so far. Coleman is the only player on the team this year that is known to British fans.
Campbell has always had an eye for goal and the one thing that stands out in my mind was he had a pretty awesome wrist shot. Put on a line with half decent players and he guarantees you offence. A player who I hope one day may join this league again. He could play on any team in this league. That been said I don't think any of the top clubs would go for him due perhaps to his age. A mid table side like Cardiff or Coventry or maybe even Braehead could be an ideal place to make an impact.
