Surprised at the standard!
by Jerramie Domish
Hello everyone,
This will be my first time writing a blog, so here goes. After this past weekend’s losses the Newcastle Vipers are sitting in fifth place with 27 points. We had a great start to the season beating many of the top teams in the league which I think surprised a lot of people. As of the last month or so we have found ourselves taking points one weekend and then none the next weekend. This type of roller coaster ride is not a good way to end the first half of the season, as I have found out from experience. Earlier in the season when we had success, we were all playing from our hearts and for the better of the team. As of late, we seem to have lost that mentality. When we can all come together and play the system laid out for us, we are a contender. Every team has bumps in the season and I hope we are having ours now.
Before I signed with Newcastle this past summer, I asked many people what they thought about the British Elite League. I heard many stories of bad players and a bad league, but now having spent the past few months playing and living in the UK, I have found all of the stories I heard were untrue. I have been very impressed with the level of talent throughout the league, from the imports to the young British players. There is a ton of talent in the league, with a little more money injected from wealthy folk, this league could flourish in the future.
Personally I love the UK and especially the city of Newcastle, there are many friendly people willing to help in any way they can. The fans of the Vipers are a dedicated bunch that love there team. Everyone that I speak to shows a ton of love and support...... so thank you everyone!!!! I live right on the North Sea in Whitley Bay, not far from the rink. It’s a real nice little flat that gets a great breeze from the sea all the time, it’s a very nice place to live.
As we all know Christmas time is here and everyone knows what that means.........Christmas parties!! We have our team Christmas party tomorrow and it’s looking like it’s going to be a good time. The night’s theme is bad sweater, that’s where you find the worst looking Christmas sweater you can find and rock it out!!
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.
