The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Well this is the penultimate weekend of the EPL hockey season and the Scims have as a good chance as anyone to reach the play-off finals which are being held in Coventry next weekend. If we can play in our quarter final match up as good as I know we can, and then who can dispute the argument that we could turn the old form book upside down and win the goddamn thing? Now that would really turn a few heads wouldn’t it?
As I said in the last blog, we face Slough in our play off quarter final and based on last weekend’s showing then we can go into the games with a great deal of confidence in our veins. For we didn’t beat them just the once last weekend, we completed a four point weekend over them and questions can be asked how do the Jets feel after this? You can bet that they will be smarting big time but we fear nobody when we take to that ice and even though it’s now the play-offs – we have to be sure that we are more than capable of coming out on top.
It has to be said that if you want to get a bit of a march on your play-off opponents then plant seeds of doubt in their minds early and last weekend I think we did that to Slough. Fighting back to defeat them 4-3 in their barn after trailing 3-0 is a major fillip but to crush them the following night on home ice like what we did is really awesome. The fact we beat the Jets 7-2, and it could have been more, really must have had our locker room jumping up and down afterwards. Seeing the Slough equipment manager after the game with a hurt expression and saying that they didn’t believe in themselves now only adds fuel that maybe we have got their number. This Sunday will confirm that one way or the other.
I particularly enjoyed Sunday’s win more as I was also presenting the Scimitars Player of the Month award after the game on the ice. This was because I was sponsoring the damn thing! Anyway I thought it would be a nice touch to get Mam involved too. She had missed out on winning the 50/50 draw by one number, I’d sold the winning ticket to Mike instead, but it seemed a good idea to get her help present it. So with two minutes left, I said to her to grab her stuff and follow me. She had no idea what I was I planning…
Getting down to the announcer’s area Hilary handed me the trophy which was to be presented to Dr. Stuart Brittle, the winner of the award. It was then I said to Mam that she was helping me on ice present it. Her face was like one of a rabbit startled in headlights, she was scared she’d fall flat on her backside on the ice. I assured her she wouldn’t as me and Stu would balance her upright. After a quick trip to the loo, she agreed OK. The presentation went fine but thanks a certain Mr Lee Haywood; I am led to believe I look slightly distracted in the photo. Ah well, another photo in the Duell household for Mam to put on the walls.
Next Wednesday night is the hockey end of season presentation where I pick up my two shirts from Messers. Squires and Stewart. Quite if I will still have my play-off beard is open to debate but knowing a few of them at the Club will want to me keep it that bit longer. Mam will have other ideas that’s for sure as you know…
Enjoy your hockey, see you soon.
