The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Hello again everyone. I’m back, and this week’s blog will be looking at Saturday’s big top of the table clash between the Panthers and the Giants.
So, after two solid back to back wins in Scotland the Panthers beat Fife 6 - 2 and the poor old Capital’s 8 – 0. I’ll start with the Fife game; by all accounts Fife put up a great fight and played some hard physical hockey. Personally I think when Fife get their first win they could really start to climb the league and I also think that they will have a big say on who could win the league, by the big 4 teams (Steelers, Blaze, Panthers and Giants) going up there and grinding out results. Mark my words when Fife get up and running they will pull off some big shocks before the season has done.
So while it’s looking up for Fife, it’s a different state of affairs for the poor old Capitals. After losing 8 – 0 to the Panthers and playing in a borrowed kit - as they didn’t get theirs ordered in time. I mean why, as the owner of a club do you leave your kit orders until the last minute? Haven’t the poor fans been through enough last season, with the players walking out and towards the back end of the season being beat heavily each and every week. Is there any wonder that fans are starting to stay away? Can you imagine if this happened at the Panthers, what would we all do? On the one hand you want to go to support your team whatever the outcome of the game, but if the club were doing nothing to help themselves would you really want to spend your hard earned sixteen pound on watching a team that is losing every week and playing in a borrowed kit? And as a fan what would you tell your friends “come and watch my team we lose every week and we don’t even have our own kit”. One thing is for sure, the Capitals have a lot of work to do off the ice never mind on! I just hope Scott manages to keep the Capitals afloat, as I think that losing the Capitals would be a sad loss for the Elite League and for the other Scottish teams.
I hope all the Panther’s fans that went up to Scotland had a good weekend. As for me, I missed both Scottish weekends this season due to work commitments so as a booby prize I was given free tickets to watch the Steelers vs Devils on Sunday in Sheffield so we decided to go. I went in my GB Clarkey shirt that was given to me as a gift from the Dilley’s and went and sat with the Devils fans as quite honestly I don’t like Steeler fans (no surprise there!). Half the arena was empty and now the steelers have opened up the whole arena for everyone to sit where they want it looks even emptier. The highlight of the night was Simmsy bragging about the new Steelers entrance video which broke not once, not twice but three times for what we saw it looks like a cheesy rip off of the thunderbirds opening which would make sense as most Steeler fans are puppets. The game its self was a good game until the Steelers won but I believe this season the Steelers look weak in their Defence and are really undisciplined. I must say the Steelers new nettie, john Decaro looks poor and his glove side was woeful on Sunday, he could have had a giant foam hand and he still would have been beaten. On his glove side, will he get better, I don’t know but as a Panther I hope not. The main reason the devils lost that game was their inability to score on the power play. They tried the pass the puck into the net rather than take the shot when given the opportunity. But all in all it was a good game of hockey for free and I got to see Anna Woolhouse which was a bonus! She even came to sit behind me at one point so she could get a better look at the game.
Recently I have been assaulted at work so now I have a nice lump under my eye and a nice black eye not to mention the headaches and the x-ray I have to have. So this got me thinking about the life of an enforcer and what they must go through after every fight, the pain and the injuries they get, but not only do it once a week sometimes twice in a week. After what happened to me I wouldn’t want to be an enforcer but they will always get my upmost respect as I for one will always get up and cheer during and after a fight but now I kind of how they will feel in morning. They are welcome to that job.
So Wednesday night we carried on our great start to the season beating Hull 6 – 2 a great team performance but I have to say David Alexander Beauregard is looking fantastic this season and playing like a player who is high on confidence and enjoying his hockey but then so does the whole team which is always good. The other thing that happened during the hull game was myself Laura and Kerry pushing back on our chairs and creating a 4 inch gap between the floor and the Plexiglas so we had to go get Hugh who works in block 4 and is a very nice man. Luckily it was fixed but that night will always be known as the night we broke the arena.
The only problem we have at the moment is the ‘negative Nellys’ again, I mean the team is playing great hockey and scoring well so what do some fans do, jump on the back of Jeff Heerema about his points, I mean come on, the season has only just started and we are top of the League, but it’s still not good enough for some Panthers fans. I think Jeff has been playing well and the points will come so maybe what I’m trying to say is get off the Jeff’s back, it’s far too early to be jumping on peoples backs!.
So that brings me nicely to this weekend’s top of the table clash Panthers vs Giants. I honestly think the Panthers will win, maybe not by many but I’m going for the score of 4 – 2. Either way it should be a great game, but remember even if we lose, all is not lost.
I have a feeling this is going to be our year trust me.
Anyway until the hooter blows again
Take care
Russ
