The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Welcome to my first of many blogs (I hope) I'll start by telling you a little bit about myself and how I got into ice hockey, so as you can see my name is Russ I’m 25 from Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottingham which makes me a Panthers fan.
I first got into ice hockey in 2004 towards the back end of the 2003/04 season. My girlfriend (now wife) bought us tickets to see the Nottingham Panthers at the NIC when they played the Basingstoke Bison. I’ve forgetten the score but I know the Panthers won and after that I was hooked, I loved everything; the speed, the checks, and the goals. Before my wife took me to watch ice hockey I didn’t even know who the Nottingham Panthers were or that Britain had an ice hockey league. Now after I saw that one game I became a season ticket holder and can be found on game nights in block 4 with a beer.
Now I have introduced myself, I'll tell you what I'm planning to do with my blogs. I'm hoping to cover most of the burning issues in British ice hockey in the coming season. I will be blogging about Sky coverage, Smascots, money in British ice hockey and everybody's favourite - salary caps. I will also be getting some player interviews up on here over the coming season with some key players.
So lets get to it as I'm sure everybody knows its nearly hockey time in the Elite league and most of us hopefully would of seen our teams play apart from Sheffield and Hull, but can we read anything into the pre-season results? I personally think not, I feel you can see how the teams are gelling together but as for the results I don't think you can, look at the Coventry blaze losing to Belfast Giants but then going to Cardiff devils and beating them. Then Wednesday night the Blaze lose to Cardiff Devils in Coventry, so do I think Paul Thompson is worried? I don't think so, but I think he'll be watching very closely at his defence and nettie in this coming weekend.
As for my team; the Panthers I believe we have a team to win things this year whether it be the league or play offs, I guess we will have to wait and see but I do believe by the end of the season every hockey fan in the elite league will know the name Alex Penner
Well that’s it from me, I hope you all enjoyed my first blog and remember this is the only weekend that all teams start on equal points.
Remember: keep your eye on the puck at all times!
Russ
