The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
First off let me wish every hockey fan a happy hockey new year and I hope this year is happy and healthy year for everyone.
Right than down to business I have had a great Christmas a nice quiet one at home with the wife and the dogs however little did I know that hockey would spoil my Boxing Day. There I was sat in Sheffield super pint in my hand and 3-1 up at the end of the first I was in dreamland as winning there means more to me than anything but then it happened in true Panthers fashion a massive collapse and that’s all I can say about that really as the last two periods I have wiped from my memory mostly due to another super pint. The thing that mostly sticks in my throat from this game is the fact that if Corey can’t motivate this players after leading 3-1 then there is a problem with his management style but not just only that I get home to read on the website that we lost the game due to unlucky bounces and a bad playing surface well I’m sorry that doesn’t it with me why not come out and say I’m sorry we played poor and I take the blame for that but this Corey Neilson we are talking about and since when has he done that.
The following night and its round 2 this time at the NIC I can’t say how happy I am to be at home tonight as at Sheffield arena I don’t think they had cleaned the plexi glass since the arena opened maybe steeler dan could double up his job as mascot and a plexi glass cleaner he would be better as the latter. So there I am sat in my seat waiting to see the panthers play better and although I see glimpses the same thing happened again we lost again but what I find great is that people were saying we played well. I sometimes wonder what game people watch we were poor not as poor as the night before but still poor. So as I get home again what do I see on the website Corey Neilson again say it was due to a poor penalty call and that’s why we lost well I remember Corey taking his normal shot from the point and messing in it and a steeler racing all the way down the ice with Corey hooking him all the way down and he still managed to put it the net but Corey will forget this.
Then this was followed by another loss to new boy’s Braehead clan another poor game where we just didn’t turn up again. The real shocking point was the following day when the panthers sacked bench coach Davie graham why they did this I’m still unsure. I think my friend Iain summed this up by saying “I wonder if when Neil Blacks dog poos on the bed, he goes and kicks the cat” which is right Corey is the one underperforming why then sack poor old Davie and not the main man himself. Also if the rumours are to be believed that Davie drove down to London to pick up 3 players that had been allowed to go home for the holidays and then drive them straight to the arena for a game and then 3 days later we sack the poor guy it’s just not on I guess he has just been made the fall guy.
Now we have Rick Strachan here as bench coach let’s just hope he has better luck than his predecessor. So good luck rick I think your need it.
As we all know panthers have now beaten Dundee and a 13 man bench Newcastle let’s hope these wins put us in good stead for a 6 point 3 day weekend. If anyone can end Cardiff’s un beaten run it will be us on Saturday I’m sure of it in fact feel free to quote me panthers will beat the devils on Saturday.
My last point is again aimed at one Mr. Corey Neilson in yesterdays Nottingham paper. “The thing is, the supporters seem to need us scoring a few goals to start them cheering and getting behind us. It would be great for the guys to hear their support from the start rather than waiting until we get on top. They seem to expect us to be blowing teams away every night and it doesn't always happen like that, especially against the likes of Sheffield, Belfast and Cardiff.
This is taken as a quote from Corey, well as a fan I am not going to sit there and clap when the Panthers are playing poor also blowing teams like Sheffield, Cardiff and Belfast away I don’t expect that but what I do expect is my team to turn up and give a 100% which they haven’t been doing so why should I make noise? I think this is now Corey’s final nail in his coffin. Also Corey didn’t you go straight off the ice at the last home game without clapping your fans maybe you should take a look at your own actions before blaming others.
So that’s me out for another week I’ll be back next week after the three games in three nights
Keep your eye on the puck at all times
Russ
