The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Well it’s been a while since you heard from me, this is due to two reasons, firstly I have changed work areas so I’m at work more now and secondly my 5 year old laptop gave up on me and went to laptop heaven. Now I’m back and just like hockey I’m hard hitting.
So the first games of the season have come and gone. What a good weekend it was for both teams. So let’s start with the home game where, in case you were living under a rock the panthers won 6-1. At the start of the night when I sat in my new seat (yes the NIC has changed the first 3 rows of seats nearest the ice to comfy padded seats). I thought to myself we will win this tonight, however I was thinking along the lines of 3-1 but, I saw a new panthers team come out onto the ice looking a very hungry. I must say David Alexander Beauregard was fantastic, he took his 3 goals well and his breakaway goal was just awesome and then we get to Jordan fox if this guy stays fit he will be a monster, this guy hits hard and gets hit hard, then gets up and skates off but his goal and the deke leading up to it was just total quality. Also good to see Clarke and Lachowicz scoring, carrying on the great work they did last season. I thought the ‘D’ looked good which can only get stronger when Captain Danny Myers comes back.
Then we get to Sundays game, if anyone saw us in Cardiff we were the ones in the monkey suits. I was with my ‘brother’ Rob as we wanted to be remembered! Thanks to Marc Levers for having a picture taken with us in our monkey suits. We had a great time at the big blue tent. The staff were friendly and nice to chat to. Special thanks go to Sara who works at the ticket office who sorted our tickets. Cardiff were up for this game and after the drumming from the night before it was Cardiff’s first home game of the season and they wanted revenge, which they got and although they came away with a 4-1 win, The Panthers were the better team than the score line reflects. We had great chances and we hit the iron 3 times but it wasn’t our night. I tried to find something bad to say about the game but I couldn’t! So to sum up our 4–1 loss in Cardiff we were just unlucky. Thanks to Laura for driving and putting up with my singing and a special ‘hello’ goes out to Mr C and Bozzy B who we met in Cardiff, they were real nice panther fans that live in Cardiff.
I’m still on cloud 9 after a 10-1 win over the Coventry Blaze. When I woke up this morning the first thing I did was check the internet to make sure last night really happened and that it wasn’t a dream. So where do I start were the panthers that good or were the blaze that bad? Well I think The Panthers looked awesome last night everything just clicked and Champagne’s hat trick was well deserved, he took his chances well and got a ‘mom’ for his efforts. But for me, my ‘mom’ was Benedict he was awesome, he must have covered every inch of ice last night and his passing was top class, he looked right at home in a Panthers shirt last night. Where now for the Blaze? they haven’t lost in double figures since 1999 I am sure Thomo had some strong words for his team last night on the way home and it must of hurt seeing his side get battered by the Panthers which we all know isn’t one of Thomos favourite teams. The blaze stunk out the NIC last night poor passing and the D men were clueless and slow. I think the only player that tried was Peter Hirsch but how much can you do if there’s a D man in front of you. I have new respect for Hirsch after hearing last night that one of friends had died in the Russian aircraft disaster but still wanted to play.
That’s brings me to the saddest part of my blog the Russian aircraft disaster involving the KHL team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl my heart goes out to the families of the team and crew that died. I know the world of hockey is in shock and hopefully the Elite League will come up with an All-Star game or something along those lines, with money raised going to support the families of the player’s that died. I hope the crew member who suvired this horrific crash goes on to make a full recovery. It’s at times like this no matter what team you support and what team you hate we all come together morn and to celebrate their life’s and achievements of the players that died. That is why hockey is the best sport in the world not only that, but the people who follow hockey are the best fans in the world.
Our time on this earth is short so enjoy it and never have any regrets
Until next time…
Russ
