The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.

Well.... The last two home matches versus Hull and Sheffield couldn't have been more polar opposite. The Hull Stingrays came out determined yet depleted; it's easy to underestimate the underdogs but Hull have proven that on their night they can beat anyone...even the current league leaders; the Sheffield Steelers. The Giants were guilty of this underestimation, maybe not going out onto the ice with the 'must win mentality' rather an 'I can't lose mentality.' There was a bit of a shock as Lee Mitchell scored with less than 3 minutes on the clock. The Giants were quick to react and there was a final score of 6-3.
It was a major wake up call, the Giants, no matter how good they are, need to keep a consistent game going and although they beat the Stingrays, they coasted for a good deal of the second and third periods. The score shouldn't have been as close as 6-3, but at least it was a win in the bag and two points towards the totalizer. The Giants were hungry for the win and the fans were behind them. (maybe a bit more vocally on the Saturday night) The home team knew that this was the first step to potential league victory.
Its a bit strange to think that I'm in the final month of the 2010-2011 season, the hockey season was never long enough and there's always the looming inevitable off season. The Giants squad this year has been one of the best yet and I would love to see the majority of them retained for next season (whatever way the league may look then) All I know is that Doug has done us proud and that its great to have him back on board for next season.
The biggest home game of the season was Saturday against the Sheffield Steelers. Simon's squad would be a true test of the Giant's determination and they didn't disappoint. The Giants played solid hockey for 60 minutes in front of an almost sell out crowd of over 5,600, the atmosphere was amazing, there was chanting and plenty of screaming at the referee, the best atmosphere and turn out since the Bruin's weekend.
Mason and Prudden scored two goals each with Benny also adding to the Giant's score sheet. The final score was 5-2 and the crowd were ecstatic (except for the travelling support) a positive for the Steelers performance was Mustakovs who was an awesome find for the Steeler's organisation. The Steelers put all of their efforts in but came up short, another abysmal and embarrassing performance from Derek Campbell, the chink in a practically perfect set of armour.
The announcement of the nominations for Goaltender of the year was a slight joke with the welcome nominations of Murph and Moose and the unbelievable addition of Jaeger. Really? Jaeger? JF Perras and Lyle would have been a better nomination. Best of luck to Murph although Moose is a worthy adversary. We have a few matches left to go with a two goal deficit to make up for the Challenge Cup but I keep the faith.
