The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Don’t think for one single minute think I am going to release a blog where I demean the female species, but this blog does have a hockey theme in it as well. I have just experienced another one of those weekends, none too similar to what I have been going through since December last year and to be honest: well, things haven’t changed sadly. We are still on that slippery slide of form, two wins only since the turn of the year and the light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t show any sign of getting closer in view.
So let me explain individually the three components of the title of this blog, and make everything oh so clear.
So what’s the Blades bit about? Have I broken a skate blade whilst attempting another session in my bid to become a proven expert in ice skating? Er, no. Due to increased college commitments I have had to put the skating on hold for a while, although I am sorely tempted to go this weekend and go to college later on. Just like I did a few weeks past. In fact, I will go I reckon as I’ve got nothing else planned as it stands. Suppose I best get those skates sharpened up immediately. You never know I might get to see that nice female skating assistant I mentioned a few blogs ago, would be a bit of a bonus if I did do. So what am I on about then? You’re all looking confused I can surmise.
Well it began on Thursday when a mate called to see how I was and if I’d found a new job yet (as it stands now, that’s still drawing a blank) which was considerate of them. He’s also a season ticket holder at Sheffield United, who provide the answer to the riddle as they are nicknamed “The Blades”… The culmination of the call ended with me agreeing to meet up with him on Saturday and go to the match too…my first actual football match this season as a spectator! I used to be into my football as much as I am into my hockey, but these days I’m more likely to be found watching hockey than football matches such is my devotion to the sport now.
I got my ticket on the morning of the game before college, a bargain at £15 when compared to the ridiculous prices charged elsewhere nationwide. Even then I raised a chuckle as United’s ticket database as me at an address which I have never lived at. College study completed and going well, onto my second study unit now, but don’t know about Mr McMorrow as I haven’t seen him for weeks. So it was then onto the pub and meet Graham. Then came the second part of the title, the gorgeous barmaid and by golly she knows she is. Just like Meghan Agosta and Rebecca Johnston are babes from the Canadian women’s hockey team – this was a football babe of the highest order. Every time I went to the bar, she served me as if she had to. Found later she’s spoken for, but my God what a hottie! Football was entertaining, saw a seven goal thriller – might go back for more now lol!
Hockey results again didn’t go to plan either, no surprises really. Saturday saw us in Swindon and go two down in the first, just like we did the last time, and then haul it back level in the second. Déjà vu maybe? Except this time, it was the Wildcats who came on top and the home fans could celebrate their first home win over us this season. Painful for our hardy supporters who saw the “away” section there changed to “home” and had to stand throughout, safe to say Swindon aren’t exactly popular with the decision now. So onto Sunday, and a delayed start because of a sheet of plexi being smashed in the warm up by one of our team! Better a delayed start than a cancellation like what happened in Belfast the night beforehand with the “hole”.
The game was a close call; either side could have won it. After a scoreless first, Scims’ Tom Squires was injured when on the end of a hit and he collided with an open bench door. Ouch! It now transpires from Tom, he’s dislocated his shoulder and I guess that’s the end of the season for our promising and talented forward. Shame really, he’s a very good player – get well soon mate I say. It took nearly 36 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, by us but the Bison came straight back and levelled. Period three and still tight, Bison then led 2-1 but we fought back straight away. A late penalty call, after we had screwed up a 5 on 3 (referee Blaine Evans mistaking Sam Oakford for Mindy Kieras – don’t how but he did…twice!), and we got punished with a late winner. Bad luck indeed.
So now it’s onto a home double header this weekend. Milton Keynes on Saturday, and Romford the Sunday. Two teams at the opposite ends of the table. I am expecting at least one win from the weekend that’s a certainty. A four point weekend would be better though…as will not falling on my arse when I go skating at the weekend! Who said miracles never come true? Just a thought….
Enjoy your hockey!
Mark
