Two out of three ain't bad
by James Broughton Hello again hockey fans. I have taken a little bit of stick over my comments about former Steeler Brad Cruickshank. The point I made was that at times Cruicker was less use than a traffic cone. Well ok perhaps that was a little harsh but at the time that's how we felt. I stand by everything else though, for me he wasn't pulling his weight and he was the right one to go. Anyway life goes on.
Wel,l well, well, a solid weekend for my team the Steelers. It all started Friday night at iceSheffield. After two rather average periods the boys trailed two zip and looked like they were going down again. To that point the only bright spark was new boy Mike Sgroi. In the 3rd however we came to the party and put Cardiff under siege. First Scott Basiuk scored from the point. Then Joey Talbot scrambled home a second and to finish the perfect script, with just 11 seconds left Mike Sgroi was left all alone in the slot and fired high glove side beyond Stevie Lyle to seal the win.
Saturday saw us take the annual pilgrimage up to Edinburgh. Well conceding 3 bad goals led us to an overall 6-3 loss. The fact that we didn't have a single powerplay baffled Steelers fans and players alike. It was another game that we just weren't quite good enough. Plus points from the game were once again Robert Farmer impressed me with a increased level of body contact and a couple of goals. Also Randy Dagenais really stepped up over the weekend up north.
Game 3 on Sunday saw the Steelers play a real solid game. In fact with the exception of a mad couple of minutes where the Caps scored both their goals we played our best game league game in weeks. It ended 7-2 and the boys really earned their two points. Two wins in three games is just about as good as we could have hoped for.
This is a real positive for the team a good weekend heading into a huge game against the Nottingham Panthers in the Challenge cup. Bring it on people we can beat them.
