Luke Fulghum first started his career at junior level in 1998 for the Waterloo Black Hawks in Waterloo Iowa. Although the standard of hockey was high for the league, Fulghum managed to adapt well, and finished his first season with thirty points in fifty-two games. Having started his hockey career so well, Fulghum stayed with the Waterloo Iowa’s for almost three seasons, and continued to improve with every game. For the 99/00 season, Luke scored 28 goals with 19 assists in forty-seven games, giving him a points total of 47.

That was Luke’s last full season with the Waterloo Iowa’s, as he then made the move to Dubuque Fighting Saints, after playing only twenty-one games for Iowa for the 00/01 season. While playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Fulghum played thirty-four games and got 31 points. However, his time in the USHL league was up, and made the move to the NCAA for the University of Denver – College Hockey. In the four seasons he played for Denver, Fulghum’s first season didn’t start to well. He needed time to adapt and establish himself, and in thirty-five games Luke only scored 5 goals with 7 assists (12 points). While not the best, Luke did managed to establish himself as a regular player for the club, and steadily improved untill the end of the 04/05 season. His last season was his best for the Denver team, with 21 goals, 18 assists giving him 39 points.

Leaving College hockey, Fulghum went on to play for the AHL team Maple Leafs. This however was short lived, after only playing two games for the club, fulghum went on to play in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). From the 04/05 season right up to the 07/08 season, Luke spent most of his time in the ECHL and only played in the AHL every now and then. In the 2005/06 season, he split his season between Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL with the Toronto Marlies. While playing for the Ice Pilots, Luke racked up 33 points in forty-four games and 4 points in fifteen games for the Toronto Marlies. Staying with the Marlies for the 2006/07 season, Fulghum moved from the Pensacola Ice Pilots to the Columbia Inferno’s. Sixty-five games for the Columbia Inferno saw Luke get 43 points with 26 of them being goals.

After a good season with the Columbia Inferno’s, Luke went on to a hectic season. Playing for two different clubs before finally moving to the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL once again. The first team Luke moved to for the 07/08 season was Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. Sadly, after just one game Luke moved back into the ECHL once again, and now played for Stockton Thunder’s. Playing only five games for Stockton, Elmira Jackals made there move for Fulghum, where he played thirty-four games and got 24 points. Tony Hand of the Manchester Phoenix then made his move for Luke in the 2008/09 season. This was Luke’s first time playing European hockey, and was announced to Manchester Phoenix fans in August 2008 by player/coach Tony Hand.

Fulghum’s first season in UK ice hockey was a successful one. He was well liked by fans for his work rate on the ice and for his point scoring ability. In sixty-seven games, Fulghum scored 27 goals, 33 assists (60 points) and 34 penalty minutes. Sadly, at the end of the season Manchester phoenix were in financial trouble, and were left with no other option but to drop down into the English Premier League from the Elite league. This also meant that Fulghum would have to leave as he did not have a dual passport – letting him play in the EPL. So as a result, Luke was left with no club to play for – but not for long. As in June 2009, Coventry Blaze signed Luke Fulghum for the upcoming season. In fifty-six game, Luke scored 48 goals and 32 assists, giving him an incredible 80 points!

With the new season starting soon, Blaze fans were delighted to have re-signed Fulghum, having previously become the top goal scorer in the Elite League. We now look forward to another season with Luke Fulghum, and hope he can continue to improve his game though-out the seasons to come.
