The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
When Sheffield Scimitars Head Coach Jon Rowbotham released Swedish import forward Joakim Millqvist just 8 games into the new season and replaced him with former Romford Raider and Chelmsford Chieftain Mark Stewart, some fans were a bit unsure it was the right move. In his second spell with the EPL’s surprise package of the season so far, Stewart has impressed everyone and played a major part in the rise of the Scimitars.
The Canadian forward admitted it has gone well so far:
“It feels great to be back. I remember a few years ago I had a great time here but the team is a bit different with a lot of young guys who are all buying into the system and it’s really going well.
Compared to last time I was here, we have a different coach who has a lot of different playing systems and players who are a lot younger than the last time I was here but it was a pretty young team the last time I was here but this time we’re certainly not playing like a team with lots of youth in it.
It was a nice pleasant surprise to score and get Man of the Match on my debut (Milton Keynes away) but considering I hadn’t had much game time I just do what I can and remember getting up a nice pass from (Robert) Farmer in the second period and put it right through the goalie’s legs.
This side does have the potential to go on and win a trophy this season I am sure. Again people have written us off with our age and not having much experience in the ranks but we have proved we can beat any team, we have won six in a row and most of them have been convincing wins so why not?
Of the youngsters Farmer, (Matt) Haywood and (Ben) Bowns are clearly the best of our young guys so far. Bownsy’s a great goalie in his own right who has won us a few games here and there but up front Haywood and Farmer are really showing what they are capable too. The fact that Matt and Robert train with the Steelers every day in the week shows that they are playing with a lot of confidence. (Tom) Squires is another one who has impressed me as well as the young lads on the D.
Obviously, it is surprising me that we are doing this well but now I have seen that we can play like we are now, then we will win games. I saw highlights of the Manchester game which we lost 6-4 in the last minute and sure they have some great players but so do other sides and so do we. We’re confident we can beat anyone in this league.”
