| Game report Coventry Blaze were crowned league champions for the 4th time in this the 7th Elite League season after a dramatic overtime win in Edinburgh.
Hat trick hero for Blaze was EIHL all-time leading scorer Adam Calder as he tied the game with 28 seconds remaining then fired home the game winner in overtime.
It had looked like being a last game decider in Coventry on Sunday night between Blaze and Belfasdt Giants when Capitals led 3-2 in the 5th minute but the never-say-die attitude of the visitors pulled them through in the end.
Earlier Blaze had looked well in control as they opened up a two-goal lead after the opening period. Brad Cruikshank (22nd) send them on their way with a goal at 12.06 and at 17.58 Calder (35th) nabbed his first of the night.
The Capitals comeback started in the second period as they grabbed the only goal at 23.54 with ex Blaze star Dan Welch (15th) scoring and in an end to end session the only surprise was that neither team added to their tally.
Into the third period and it was all square at 51.25 when Welch (16th) scored his second of the game and then at 56.49 Michael Beynon (5th) fired the home side ahead and looked to have ended the Blaze hopes until Calder (36th) struck on the powerplay at 59.32.
Overtime saw each team manage two shots on goal but the final one came from the stick of that man Calder (37th) as he sent everyone with Blaze connections into ecstasy at 63.28.
