| Game report Vipers shocked the home town Capitals with goaltender Michel Robinson making 38 saves as he led his team to an eventual shootout victory with Brent Hughes firing in the winning shot.
Although Vipers will be disappointed at losing a late goal to allow Capitals to take the game into overtime they can perhaps be relieved that they survived to the shootout with Capitals outshooting their visitors by a remarkable 10 to 1 in the overtime session.
Early strikes to both sides in this one as Jason Tejchma (32nd) fired Vipers ahead after only 90 seconds but the home side hit back to level at 2.57 with a goal by Owen Fussey (37th). Vipers then regained the lead and held it until the end of the period when Matic Kralj (24th) hit the net at 10.23.
Both sides had plenty of opportunities in the second period but neither could score but surprisingly it was Vipers who had more of the chances in the third period without adding to their tally whereas Capitals tied the game late on as Dan Welch (13th) scored at 57.33 on a shorthanded play.
The home side dominated the overtime period but could not force a winner and in to the shootout we went where Hughes was the only player amongst the six shooters to score, giving Vipers the extra point.
