It's still mathematically a 3-team race for the regular season title as Panthers took the points in their final home league game in a tight match against Capitals.

Panthers are still alive and kicking unless Coventry pick up 2 more points from their 3 remaining games or if Belfast add 3 points from their last 2 games, so it's an unlikely scenario for Corey Neilson's men - but you never know!

Panthers wasted no time in taking the lead with Stephen Lee (3rd) firing home after only 74 seconds but that was to be the last time in the opening period that Capitals goaltender Cody Rudkowsky was to pick the black biscuit out of his net while at the other end Simon Lambert (33rd) levelled for the Scots at 17.07 on the powerplay.

Only a single strike in the second period to break the tie and it came the way of the home side at 24.07 from Cameron Mann (34th) but Capitals were very much still in this game after forty minutes of hockey.

A very tight third period with neither side able to sustain meaningful offence but the points were sealed when Bruce Richardson (17th) scored into the vacated Capitals net with 50 seconds remaining. That wasn't the end of the scoring however with Jeff Hutchins (27th) pulling one back with only 8 seconds remaining.
