Adams to return as Devils coach

The Cardiff Devils have announced Gerad Adams has re-signed as Head Coach for the 2010/11 season.

Last evening saw the now traditional ‘Farewell to the players’ event, held this year at Revolution Bar in Cardiff City centre. Several hundred fans were in attendance, with many taking the chance to grab an autograph or photo with their favourite Devils.

Following a fantastic playoff effort at the weekend that saw the Devils just edged out by Belfast in a penalty shoot-out, the Devils have re-signed Adams for his third season at the helm.

Director of Hockey Shannon hope took the microphone last night and thanked all the fans for coming along. On the subject of ‘G’ (as Adams in known), Hope said:

“We think G has done a great job this year; we’ve improved in the league to fourth, and reached two cup finals that went down to a single goal. A little more luck, which you need in sport, and we would have two more cups for the trophy cabinet. He’s made some tough choices when he had to and improved areas he needed to when required.

Stability is important and we think G will build on this improvement next year and bring home championships. Off the ice the club is improving too and keeping together a management unit that works well is vital for stability and success. Next year will be exciting!”

This sentiment was echoed by Adams himself, who also spoke. Immediately he thanked his players for the “tremendous effort” he said they had put in all year and vowed: “in 365 days time we’ll return as playoff champions”, drawing a huge cheer from the assembled fans. Adams also thanked the Devils ownership for their 'unbelievable' support and enthusiasm.

Also announced were season ticket sales – already over 300 (312), with 52 being brand new season ticket holders. This represents a lightning start to season ticket sales and with the ‘early bird’ discount still available until May 31st, the club is optimistic to smash its targets this year.

“The best way you can support us is exactly how you have been” said Hope, “Season ticket sales, spreading the word, bringing along a friend – all this is so important to making us a success.”
