The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
With two good performances last weekend and now a newly appointed assistant coach, it is clear that the Wildcats have a new found confidence. Wildcats GM Steve Nell today caught up with coach Ryan Aldridge if he could put if down to any of the recent off ice changes.
"It's down to alot of things really. We've changed our system, the way we look at each team and how we should play overall, to get the best of the team." He said.
"We try to play alot more passive, control the puck and only become aggressive when necessary. Keeping the puck has also been an area we've looked more into and with me sitting out, we've looked at how to play differently to maximise each player's performance".
On the topic of Ryan's' disciplinary rule, I mentioned it must killing him on the bench however I asked if any positives had come from it, such as seeing the 'Cats game from a different perspective and if improvements have become any clearer.
"It has been hard over the last few weekends, I mean sitting on the bench away to Guildford it was pleasure to watch the guys play, even if we did not come away with points. Would we have played any better with me on ice, maybe not. However recently at Bracknell I would have liked to have helped the guys out and obviously improvements on that game did become apparent." He replied.
He then went on to say "Overall I am happy the way the team is playing and seeing it from a different perspective has helped not only the team but me as a coach aswell. I know once I hit the ice again I will look at the games differently and hopefully we can improve further."
From the mention of the team I then went on to ask about newly signed Canadian Jason Cassells. With 13 points in his last 15 games it is clear he has settled in well to the side and so I asked for Ryan's thoughts on what he thinks of the center. I asked if he thinks there is more to see from the import or if he is simply doing everything that is asked of him.
"I believe there is still more to come. He is just becoming comfortable in the team and once he has settled in I believe we may see more".
"He's a great player, not only by getting the points but also winning many face offs which is often over looked. He's good on puck and you can see passion he plays with."
"Obviously we all try to play our best and with him on a line with Rai [Danilics], his game tends to stay at a constant rate. He's a true professional and after looking over recent games, you can see the team is now trying to play together and not as individuals, himself included."
his optimistic view is a great message for the team and hopefully a sign of good things to come.
With newly appointed assistant coach Simon Anderson, and finding their general performance starting to maintain a high level, the Wildcats will be looking to gain points over the weekend when they face Basingstoke away, and then Slough at home on Sunday.
Tickets for Sunday's home game which is a 6pm face off are on sale now from Link Centre main reception, by telephone on 01793 886857 or online through the Wildcats' website, www.swindonwildcats.com.
