Allen is new man at the helm for Phantoms

Peterborough Phantoms have today announced that they will not be renewing the coaching contract of Curtis Cruickshank. The club would like to thank Curtis for his efforts during the past season and wish him every success for the future. Having reviewed all elements of the business, the club has decided that a different direction will better fit the organisation and are delighted to announce the appointment of former NHL Florida Panthers D-man Chris Allen as player coach for the 2011/2012 season. Chris brings an extensive playing CV with him and recent coaching experience with both Edinburgh and Telford and is excited about the role and what he feels he can achieve with the club.
Chris was drafted in the 3rd round, 60th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and played two games in the National Hockey League for the team. An injury sidetracked his NHL career but the 6' 3" blue-liner went on to play several seasons in the AHL and ECHL before touring most of the world's top flight hockey - Finland, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Korea, Japan, China and an eventual slot with the EIHL's Edinburgh Capitals and Coventry Blaze. During the 2010/2011 season, Chris scored 2+3 in six "guest" appearances for Phantoms.
Phantoms new coach has had his slapshot clocked at 103 miles per hour and picked up the OHL Defenceman Of The Year award in 97/98. Chris is also tied for second all time in OHL goals for a defenceman with Bobby Orr and Al McInnis with 38 in 66 games as a member of the Kingston Frontenacs.
The club hope to be in a position to announce roster signings in the coming weeks.
