The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Netminder Andrew Dickson has become the Invicta Dynamos’ eighth signing of the summer after Head Coach Kevin Parrish today announced that he had opted to keep the young goalie for a second term. 23 year old Ballymoney born Dickson made the move to Kent as a promising youngster at the start of 2010/11 and impressed his coach enough to secure a contract for the upcoming campaign that will get underway in early September.
As a junior Andrew Dickson rose through the ranks at the Belfast Giants before short spells with both the Irish club and the Edinburgh Capitals in the Elite League. In 2010/11 he was then recommended to the Dynamos by top shot stopper Nathan Craze and secured a move to the Silver Blades Ice Rink, Gillingham where he would ice 18 times for the side in his debut campaign. In those outings the Northern Irish netminder conceded 64 times from 727 shots to leave him with an impressive save percentage of 91.2% come the end of the season. His performances saw him pick up two Man of the Match awards throughout 2010/11 and he scooped the ‘Coach’s Player of the Year’ Award as Head Coach Kevin Parrish made him his pick of the squad at the post campaign presentation evening held in May. Now the young goalie will be looking to continue his development and improve on his previous statistics as he lines up for the side once again in 2011/12.
Speaking on his first goalie signing of the summer Head Coach Kevin Parrish suggested that Andrew Dickson had already come a long way since he first appeared in Gillingham and that he thought there was better to follow over the coming year. Parrish said, “Andrew joined us as a promising talent looking for some ice time and it’s fair to say that he learned a lot from his stretch with us last season. He finished the campaign better than he started it and next term his game should see the benefits of a full year competing in the ENIHL”. The coach then commented on what the young Irishman brought to the squad off of the ice when he said, “Not only is Andrew developing as a player in games but he is genuinely a great guy to have around any hockey team. He fits in well with the rest of the players and has a great attitude towards the sport that should only help him develop further”. Finally Parrish then looked ahead when he added, “Hopefully Andrew will have a big year for us in 2011/12. Towards the end of last season especially he showed he was up to the task and I don’t doubt he will put in a number of key performances again when we get underway in September”.
Latest recruit Andrew Dickson is the sixth returning player to be announced so far this summer with further signings to be revealed in the coming days.
