Bees begin to bulk up

It’s been an exciting few weeks for fans of the Bracknell Bees as five more names put pen to paper for the 2010-2011 campaign.

Shane Moore returns for his second season at The Hive after joining the Berkshire outfit from the Swindon Wildcats before the start of last season. Despite being just 23 years old Shane has been playing at high levels for a number of years, including a stint with Milton Keynes Lightning and a handful of games for Basingstoke in the Elite league. Last year Shane recorded a career high eighteen points in fifty three appearances, placing him second amongst the Bees Brit defence in points.

Also joining the Bees for the up coming season is Sam Waller. Sam joins the Bee Army from local rivals the Slough Jets after impressing there last season. Despite being Just 18 years old, Sam notched up an impressive seven points in his time at The Hanger (his first points in senior hockey) and was selected to play for the GB U18 team.

Sam and Shane are also joined on the blue line by last year’s alternate captain and assistant coach Greg Randall as well as one of the Hornets top defensive prospects Tom Avery. Greg was last season’s top scoring defender for the Bees, collecting thirty four points in forty four matches. He played a major part in the Bees roster, icing on the powerplay and penalty kill lines and collecting three man of the match awards. Avery played in six games for the Bees last season but concentrated mainly on his games with the Bracknell Hornets under the eye of new Bees head coach Gareth Cox. Tom has established himself well in the ENL over a couple of seasons, last year notching up eighteen points to help his team win the playoff championship.

New to the UK comes Czech defence man Valdemar Pelikovsky. “Pelle” comes to Britain after playing throughout Europe and also in the ECHL with Alaska and Bakersfield, more recently playing with forward Michal Pinc in the Italian second division. Pelikovsky is currently preparing for the season by playing for the Sydney Bears in the Australian Ice Hockey League where he is averaging a point a game, with three goals and three assists in just six appearances. The 5ft11’ left shooter replaces fan favourite Andrius “Bomber” Kaminskas, who first laced up for Bracknell in the 2008-09 season, before returning as emergency cover the following year after Claude Dumas’ signing of Chad Euverman fell through.
