Bennett looking forward to derby clash
Northern Stars joint head coach Ivor Bennett believes the TDC Waste Management backed team can get back to winning ways this Wednesday. Tyneside rivals the Whitley Warriors visit the Metro Radio Arena (7.30pm) in English National League (North) Division 1 action.
“Derby games have always been big in the North East and things are no different now” said Bennett. “I played in some very memorable derbies for Durham against Whitley in the past, these games caught everyone’s imagination and that’s why people packed out the riverside rink and Hillheads”.
“Obviously last season while we were in division two we didn’t get a chance to face Whitley, so we’ve all been looking forward to these games since gaining promotion from division one. Whitley will again be up there at the end of the season so it would be a big confidence boost if we could come away with the win on Wednesday”.
“Leachy (Simon Leach) has put together another solid looking team, but if we can play to our strengths and get the crowd behind us we have a chance. All the lads are looking forward to the game and we’re confident we can come away with the two points”.
Tickets will be available on the door on Wednesday night priced at £5.00 for adults with under 16’s entitled to free admission.
