The Swindon Wildcats suffered a setback in their season's efforts, after falling late in the third period to the Basingstoke Bison. Despite holding a close game, the 'Cats would eventually suffer at the hands of the Bison on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline.

It took only ten minutes for the game to see its first goal, with the visitor's scoring on a controversial shot that was attempted to be cleared off the line but deemed a goal and claimed by Basingstoke's Wiggins.

However just thirty later and Swindon would find an almost instant reply after Swedish import Jonas Hoog connected on a loose puck and finished with ease around the Bison's Stephen Wall.
Just before the first intermission, it took a diving effort by forward Sam Bullas to then find a dividing goal and with it, see the Wildcats take the lead for the first time the game.

This led to an action packed second period and before long then bought about it's next talking point. With the Wildcats' Jaroslav Cesky hooked and bought to the ground by a last man, the call was that of a penalty shot and one that left the import with another effort on net. However despite some soft hands, Basingstoke's netminder Wall stood strong and kept out the Czech player yet again on this solitary chance.

Nevertheless he would soon make up for his missed opportunity when a great fake shot & pass lead to Cesky receiving the puck and with a quick snapshot, doubled his side's lead to 3-1.
Two minutes later and the away sides' Petra then replied with his effort, having hit a slapshot from inside the blue line and using a screen of players to then beat the helpless Dean Skinns in net.

This bought the period to a close and ended what many would judge a great twenty minutes of hockey.

The third period however would then bring about a more intense battle with both sides fighting out a very fast paced fixture. Then with a face off win going to the Bison, an unsuspecting slapshot from defenseman Redmond would again beat a screened Skinns and tie the score at 3 a piece.

The action continued to play out throughout the period from here, though when Swindon were held up on penalty call, it left the visitors with a powerplay opportunity that was soon to be jumped on. Some great 'tic-tac' passing from Basingstoke led to pressure at the Swindon net and after honing in deep on goal, a precise pass left Bison player/coach Steve Moria with a gap on a net and a tap in for a 4-3 lead.

This was soon followed shortly by the final goal of the evening, after the away sides' Kubenko capitalised on a loose puck and finished with a 5 hole shot to close game out. The final 5-3 scoreline gave with it the Basingstoke Bison the two point victory and left Swindon unfortunate not pick up something for a valiant effort.

The Wildcats will now look ahead to next week when they again at home against the Sheffield Steeldogs in what will be another important fixture.
