Blaze demolish Stingrays at the Hull Arena
Blaze bounced back in fine style from their two hammerings at the hands of Nottingham last weekend by demolishing Stingrays in their own barn with Owen Fussey starring with a hat trick and Peter Nylander scoring his first Blaze goals with a brace.
Stingrays , missing top scorer Jereme Tendler never recovered from losing 3 goals late in the opening period and will now be looking over their shoulder at the teams below them as their Play-Off spot looks less secure.
Despite Blaze dominating, the opening period looked to be heading towards a blank scoreline until Greg Owen opened the blaze account on the powerplay after 15.14. This spurred the visitors on and they hit two more in a 24 second spell to take full control. Fussey was on target at 17.30 and he was followed by Nylander’s first of the game at 17.54.
The hone side’s indiscipline let them down early in the second period and with it went their hopes of a recovery as Blaze added powerplay goals by Kralj at 22.12 and Fussey at 22.17 seconds later to lead 5-1. Stingrays did get some joy late in the period when player/coach Sylvain Cloutier netted at 37.53 but even at his stage his side were looking well beaten.
Blaze continued to take their chances in the final session, scoring three more times to see off Christian Boucher in the home cage. Strikes by Fussey on the powerplay at 41.13 for his hat trick and then counters by Nylander at 45.38 and McLean at 9.39 had Andy Brummitt take his place in the Stingrays goal.
This change seemed to refocus the home side and they conceded nothing more after that while firing in the only other goal of the game at 57.11 via the stick of Andy McKinney on the powerplay.
