Blaze four point weekend against Caps
Coventry Blaze completed a four-point weekend as they beat Edinburgh Capitals 12-2 in Murrayfield in the Elite League.
Top goalscorer Luke Fulghum nudged Blaze, who posted a 15-0 win over Capitals last night, ahead on the powerplay before a quickfire brace from Dan Carlson made it 3-0 by the end of the first period.
Ross Venus, 16, and Iain Bowie (Capitals) traded goals before Jonathan Weaver, back this weekend after knee surgery, was on target.
Rob Farmer (2), Sean Selmser and Aaron Nell (powerplay) added further markers in the second period.
Tom Murdy took over between the pipes for the third period in which Nell, Fulghum and Greg Chambers took the score to 12-1 with Martin Cingel then getting Capitals’ second of the night.
Coach Paul Thompson said: “Once again we did a professional job against a team low on bodies. But full credit to Edinburgh, they never quit.
“We tried to win the game in a professional manner without trying to embarrass the opposition who are going through a difficult situation.
“All the guys got a point apart from James Pease and boy did we try to get him a goal! He last scored about 10 years ago!”
Thompson was also pleased with the contribution of Weaver on his return from injury.
He added: “It was good to have him back. He is still a bit sore and not 100% but it was a good weekend for him to get his rustiness out.”
