Blaze look to continue fine form

Wins last Saturday over Newcastle (3-1) and Hull (5-0) saw Coventry Blaze continue the fine run of form that has seen them record victories in nine of their last ten league games. They now sit in second place in the Elite League table, two points behind leaders, Nottingham Panthers but with a massive five games in hand.
“I was really pleased with everyone last weekend,” said Blaze Head Coach, Paul Thompson. “We scored some great goals going forward and looked solid defensively. Peter Hirsch has been terrific in goal for us and it was a nice reward for him to get his first shutout of the season in Hull on Sunday.”
Sunday’s victory also saw American forward, Dan Carlson pass four hundred points for the Blaze, becoming only the fourth player to reach the impressive milestone. Carlson scored twice to add to markers from Luke Fulghum, Greg Chambers and Russell Cowley.
Blaze are now preparing themselves to face the Edinburgh Capitals for the first time this season – at home at the Coventry Skydome on Saturday and then back in the Scottish capital on Sunday. Saturday’s game will see the first return of former Blaze defenceman, Ben O’Connor since he walked out on his Coventry contract over the summer. The Capitals will also feature former Blaze marksman, Jeff Hutchins who transferred to the Scottish outfit from Sheffield Steelers earlier this season.
“These are two very important games,” concluded Thompson. “The Caps have put together probably the strongest roster they have ever had and we are going to have to be at our very best in both games.”
Blaze will give a late fitness test ahead of the games to Canadian defenceman, Jason Robinson who has missed the last four games with a knee injury.

Tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £7 for under 16’s, £10 for NUS Extra card holders and OAP’s and there is a 2 adult/2 child family ticket available for £38. The game starts at 7pm and doors open at 6pm.
