Blaze put Chris Evans and Johnny Saunders through their paces

Radio 2 breakfast show presenters, Chris Evans and Johnny Saunders took the ice on Wednesday afternoon for the latest in their series of Breakfast Sporting Challenges – and who better to show them the ropes than Coventry Blaze and Great Britain Head Coach, Paul Thompson.

Thommo and six of the stars of the Blaze – Peter Hirsch, Tom Murdy, Derek Campbell, Brian Lee, Danny Stewart and Russ Cowley – ventured to the Lee Valley Ice Centre in London to spend four hours on the ice with the radio stars to see which of the two presenters would come out on top in the Challenge.

After dressing the pair in full hockey kit, Thommo put them through a series of drills which culminated in a game with one presenter and three Blaze players on each side. The Blaze Head Coach was marking Chris and Johnny's performance based on shooting, passing and skating with Paul finally declaring one of the pair the winner of the Breakfast Sporting Challenge!

A fantastic video can be seen on Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 web page via the link below and shows the full version of events and the revealing of the winner

Paul commented after the session, "Chris and Johnny were fantastic sports. They were much better than we expected!

"Considering neither had skated much before I was impressed with their ability. They both coped well in full kit and gave it a great shot!

"They're both top, top professionals and top, top blokes and it was a real privilege to give them an insight into our sport. The players and the presenters all agreed that it was a fantastic day."
