Blaze ready for Vipers clash

Paul Thompson’s Coventry Blaze face their biggest game of the Elite League ice hockey season so far when they entertain the Newcastle Vipers at the Coventry Skydome on Saturday (7pm).

Wins last weekend in Belfast (2-1) and at home to the Hull Stingrays (5-2) have seen the Blaze move into top spot in the league for the first time this season and will go head to head with an in form Vipers team that beat both Sheffield and Nottingham last weekend.  Blaze and the Vipers are locked at the top on the same points which sets up a mouth watering clash on Saturday.

“We’ve been working really hard to steadily climb to the top of the league and great credit goes to all the players for buying in to our systems of play and giving their all to achieve this.” Said Thompson.  “Believe me, Newcastle are not at the top of the league by fluke.  They have a very talented roster that is very well organised and this is a huge, huge game for us.”

Blaze skipper, Adam Calder returned to top form last weekend, bagging two goals in each of the two Blaze victories, including both game winners – performances that saw him named the Elite League’s Player of the Week.

“I’ll do my best to keep scoring the goals,” said Calder, “but I’m more interested in the team getting the wins than my own personal goal scoring.  We’re in a good place in the league but it’s so tight this season with just two points separating the top five teams in the table.  That makes games like this Saturday so important.”

Tickets for Saturday’s top of the table clash with the Vipers are available now from the box office on 02476 630693 or by booking online at www.coventryblaze.co.uk.  They can also be purchased on the door on the night of the game.  Tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £7 for under 16’s, £10 for NUS Extra card holders and OAP’s and there is a 2 adult/2 child family ticket available for £38.  The game starts at 7pm and doors open at 6pm.
