Bracknell Bees and Swindon Wildcats played out a full-blooded contest in Berkshire on Sunday night, Bracknell coming out on top by the narrowest of margins in what was a feisty encounter to say the least.
Swindon made an excellent start to the first period, creating plenty of chances and causing Bracknell's defence all sorts of problems. Ryan Aldridge donned his skates again to replace Ryan Watt who is banned from Bracknell's rink for a year. The Wildcats were excellent in all areas but were particularly impressive in attack, creating chance after chance. Bracknell looked impressive on the break but much of their finishing was poor. Swindon capitalised on Bracknell's lack of prowess in front, Toivo Suursoo notching his third goal in two days. Michael Pinc equalised for the Bees but the Berkshire side failed to build momentum and the Cats were soon back in front. Captain Fantastic Lee Richardson grabbing the goal after neat play by Jozef Liska to make the scores 2-1 to the visitors.
Swindon got off to a flyer in the second period, Jozef Kohut putting the Cats 3-1 in front 90 seconds after the period had got underway. Netminder James Hadfield was in sensational form, constantly keeping out wave after wave of Bracknell attack. However the all too familiar second period collapse struck the Wildcats again, Craig Tribe pulling a goal back for the hosts assisted by Jaroslav Cesky. With both Matt Foord and Jason Stone in the sin-bin, the Bees took advantage of the powerplay, Craig Tribe notching his second goal of the night to tie the scores 3-3.
Both teams tried everything in order to find the winner but both netminders were equal making a string of stunning saves. However Bracknell took the lead for the first time on the night with ten minutes left, but Jozef Liska levelled the scores a few minutes later making it an extremely tense finish in Berkshire. But Bracknell grabbed the winner late on, Ashley Calvert grabbing the all important goal to clinch the points for the Bees and 5-4 win
