Brent Hughes adds Mark Kolanos to offence
Dundee CCS Stars Coach, Brent Hughes has secured the signature of 27 years old Polish/Canadian forward Mark Kolanos.
The 6' 1", 194lbs right winger/centre joins the Taysiders from CHL outfit Arizona Sundogs.
After starting his hockey career with Calgary Royals Junior A Mark had four successful seasons with University of New Hampshire in the NCAA.
In 2007 Mark moved to the Arizona Sundogs in the CHL interrupted with a brief spell at Texas Brahmas of the same league in season 2009-10. Signing with the Arizona Sundogs for his rookie pro season, Kolanos started all 64 regular season games and posted 62 points (31 G, 31 A, +2) and 64 penalty minutes. This included 26 points (10 G, 16 A) on the power play, one short-handed goal and four game-winning goals. During the playoff run that led to the 2008 Ray Miron President's Cup Championship win; he scored 14 points (6 G, 8 A).
In 2008-09 Kolanos tallied 46 points (20 G, 26 A, -6) and 50 penalty minutes in 60 games played. This included 19 points (9 G, 10 A) on the power play and two game winning goals. The 2010-11 season saw him rack up another 30 points.
Coach Hughes said of his capture: "I am delighted to bring Mark into our set up here at Dundee. AJ MacLean, Matt Suderman and myself played with and against Mark in the CHL so we know what he brings to the table. He will add extra depth to our squad and in particular to our power-play unit. He is a big guy with a big shot and a big heart. I am looking forward to having him here in time for the Sheffield game on Sunday at the Motorpoint Arena."
Mark said today: "I'm excited about coming over to Dundee and playing in front of their fans which I have heard so much about and helping the team in its push for a play-off spot."
