Buckman back at Romford
Romford Raiders are delighted to announce that Mr Versatile, Jason Buckman, has agreed terms for a third season at Rom Valley Way.
"It's great news that JB19 is back", said Mick Cahill. "It was well known that Jason was very keen to get back on a forward line last season after being converted to an emergency D man the year before and, sure enough, he started the campaign as an out and out offensive player. Unfortunately, injuries and suspensions took their toll on our blueline troops and it was almost inevitable that the first person to be called back on D would be Bucky. He didn't moan - well, he did, but with a smile on his face - and we were fortunate indeed to have a man like Jason on the roster.
“I think the play-off game at Chelmsford was indicative of what Bucky means to the team. He is unquestionably one of the best penalty killers in the league but that night, with Billy and Jules injured, Tyrone suspended and a short bench anyway, he logged huge amounts of ice time, both in 5 on 5 and on the PK. That wasn’t an isolated incident by any means and double shifting, sometimes more, became commonplace from him when we started running out of bodies at the tail-end of the season. The example he sets is one for others to emulate and is one of the reasons he was appointed alternate captain. Committed to the cause? They don’t come much more committed than Bucky.
“I suspect that nobody would have predicted Jason Buckman spending three consecutive years – maybe more – at Romford when Jesse Hammill first signed him but the old place wouldn’t seem the same without him now.”
