Canadian defenceman Stephen Burns insists moral in the Excel Hull Stingrays camp is still high despite their wretched run.

The 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Vipers on Sunday was their 15th reverse in 17 games and left them bottom of the Elite League. This weekend they welcome Edinburgh Capitals to Hull Arena before a trip to Coventry Blaze.

But Burns said: “I know we can really turn things around. It was a great effort in Newcastle and we played much better defensively. We only gave up 21 shots which is the lowest all year. But at the end of the day you can`t win by scoring just one goal. We need to stop giving up leads in the third period and learn how to finish games off.

“We are too good to be losing and we are due to start winning, we have such a good team. Losing all the time you would think the morale would be shot but there is a lot of fight in this team. I am not worried at all, this group has all the components and we will soon have a winning streak.”
