Capitals remain in free-fall
Capitals remain in free-fall with this their tenth straight defeat, with only a single win now in eighteen, while Stars picked up a priceless two points, moving only three points behind their opponents in the race for the final Play-Off spots.
Doubles for Jarrett Konkle and John Dolan led the way for Stars, while Bari McKenzie also scored twice in the losing home cause.
The teams shared the spoils in an opening period that saw late scoring, with McKenzie firing Capitals ahead on the powerplay at 16.43 only for Stars to tie it up at 19.36 with Konkle also netting with the man-advantage.
The second session saw the visitors take control with Konkle scoring his second at 23.09 and although Rene Jarolin made it 2-2 when scoring for Capitals at 27.50 on the powerplay it was a couple more for Stars before the end of the period with skipper A J Maclean at 32.05 and Mark Kolanos at 37.02 seeing Stars 4-2 ahead.
A goal by Dolan only 50 seconds into the third period gave Stars a three-goal cushion before McKenzie pulled one back at 43.22 but Stars were not to be denied and the icing on the cake was supplied by Dolan again at 55.56 on the powerplay as his side picked up a crucial victory.
