Capitals snap 39 game losing streak
What relief for Capitals as they snapped a winless run stretching back to last season of some 39 games and in the process were no doubt be delighted to fall one game short of the all-time winless run in the Elite League held by London.
And it was in some style that Capitals were celebrating as nearest rivals Fife were put to the sword as the home offence came to the party big time.
Capitals took the opening period by 2-0 thanks to strikes by Tomas Valecko at 11.15 and Rene Jarolin at 9.43.
Jarolin grabbed his second at 29.56 only for Flyers to get on target through Matt Siddall 49 seconds later. Jarolin however was o fire and completed his hat trick at 39.38 on the powerplay to extend the home lead to 4-1 after two periods.
Any faint hopes Flyers had disappeared when Steven Gunn was thrown out on a 5+game for checking to the head and Capitals scored twice on the resultant powerplay. Valecko hit his second at 45.23 and skipper Jan Safar added a sixth at 46.59.
Marcis Zembergs scored a seventh for the home side at 48.18 before Mike Hamilton pulled one back at 52.15. Bari McKenzie was on hand for Capitals eighth at 43.20 with the final goal of the game being Siddall’s second of the game at 57.20 on a delayed penalty call.
No more than scant consolation however with his side well beaten by that point.
