Man of the match Stuart MacRae led Cardiff Devils to their fourth Elite League win of the season and condemned their Scottish visitors to a ninth straight defeat.

MacRae fired Devils ahead on six minutes nine seconds, his first of the season, and that set Devils on their way to an emphatic victory.

Gerad Adams, Tylor Michel and Welsh winger Sam Smith powered Devils 4-0 ahead and although Dundee pulled one back Kenton Smith smashed the puck home at 44-29 to make it 5-1.

Dundee player-coach Dan Ceman pulled a goal back with a shorthanded strike on 53-31.

It was a match in which Devils second and third lines took the plaudits ahead of top scoring Jon Pelle and his first line partners

"It was great to see Stuart score his first goal of the season, it was clear he was keen to get off the mark," said bench coach Neil Francis. "We did the job, controlled the game and earned the points without playing at our best."

Dundee Stars hit trouble when Chris Zarb was thrown out on a five minutes plus game penalty for a double-handed slash.

Dundee's Matt Suderman landed 17 minutes worth of penalties when he clash with Max Birbraer - five for fighting, two for dropping the gloves and 10 for misconduct. Birbraer joined Suderman in the penalty box on a five minutes call.

Cardiff were without injured Brad Voth and suspended Justin Sawyer, who will return to action in next Saturday's Challenge Cup group match against Coventry Blaze having sat out two games.

Voth is unlikely to be ready for the Coventry games, but is close to playing again.
