Carlon makes return to Peterborough
The Peterborough Phantoms were given a huge New Year boost today by the re-signing of power-forward Tom Carlon. Registration papers are being processed at the moment and all efforts are being made to complete the signing in time for Monday's home fixture with Basingstoke Bison, face-off 7:15pm.
Carlon proved a huge success at Phantoms last season but started the current campaign with EPL rivals Slough Jets. A club spokesperson added, "we've built a very lively and very talented offensive threat this season but the lack of a strong power-forward type player has left us with a gap in our armoury – the sort of physical player who can break a game when we are being shackled by the opposition. In Tom Carlon, coach Allen believes he has the best British power-forward in the league and is excited at the boost it will provide to the team."
Carlon's unexpected availability proved too good an opportunity for Phantoms to ignore but the club is appealing to fans to support the Phantoms Player Fund that started recently. A club spokesman added, "it was a signing that we should not have made on paper as it takes us beyond our planned player budget but we recognise that its been a tough season for our fans to date and we felt we had to take the gamble for them and see if we can – between us – make it work. To do that, we need as many of our fans as possible to rally around the Phantoms Player Fund and pledge anything from £5 per week upwards and if we can get the sort of response we had last season then we can balance the books and keep what is looking to be a very exciting team together.
"We have had some fantastic support already but the Fund needs more people to sign up and we need those people to stay with the scheme through to season's end".
