Cats lose out despite last period dominance

This Saturday Swindon saw a change to their normal weekend fixture, when they faced the Basingstoke Bison away from home. Having faced them last weekend on home ice and to eventually lose in overtime, Swindon were again looking to have another chance to grab points from the Bison.

In comparison to last weekend Basingstoke now had a full strength side as they welcomed back Joe Ciccarello, whilst the 'Cats had to see their coach/player Ryan Aldridge sit out another game as part of his disciplinary review.

Both teams came out of the locker room in front of what was Basingstoke's biggest crowd of the season of 1,260 to watch both sides face each other for the second time in 6 days.
Despite chances by both sides, the crowd had to wait almost the entire first period before seeing the first goal of the evening.

In the 19th minute captain Nicky Chinn hit a long range shot and although Swindon goalie Geoff Woolhouse managed to block the shot, the momentum took the puck over the line and gave the home side their first of the evening.
Five minutes into the second and Bison then saw their lead double when Ondrej Lauko got himself into space in front of goal to score on a powerplay goal.
Four minutes on and the home side then widened their lead when previous scorer Lauko made the best of a breakup in the 'Cats defense; putting another past goalie Woolhouse, Lauko grabbed his second and third for his team.

Veteran Steve Moria would then grab their final goal for his side in the 33rd minute, when he reacted quickest to a loose puck in front of goal. He picked his spot netted his teams fourth of the night. This left the score at 4-0 at the end of the 2nd period and gave Swindon alot to do in the 3rd.

The last period was to see a dramatic change in the game as Swindon went on to nearly steal the game, with three goals in the final twenty minutes.
Bullas kicked off the comeback after chasing up his own rebounded and slotting it past the Bison goalie, five minutes into the 3rd period. Eight minutes on and Swindon's Aaron Nell then grabbed another for his side, after a tremendous 'tic-tac' play resulted in a goal to leave the score at 4-2.

In final five minutes the crowd were then found on the edge of their seats when Wildcats Matt Foord then found the net to bring the score within one.
Despite pulling their netminder, Swindon could not find that extra goal in the final minute and final buzzer sounded to the end the game.

The game finished 4-3 to Basingstoke and Swindon were left reflecting on a final period in which they played some of their best hockey.
