Cats to freeze the Flames this Sunday
The Swindon Wildcats this Friday at 7.45pm are hosting last year's playoff finalists, the Guildford Flames. The last time these two sides met were on neither teams' home ice but in Coventry for the Playoff Finals. After losing out to the Flames and being denied a Playoff Final position last year, the Wildcats will not only being looking to have a great start to their season but also look for some redemption come Saturday.
The Wildcats have started the season in promising form, having comeback from 3-0 down to beat the Telford Tigers 5-3 at the Link Centre last Saturday, before only losing out narrowly to some dubious refereeing to the Bracknell Bees 5-4 at the Hive on Sunday.
Guildford themselves also look strong with many of the Flames staying on for another EPL season. There have been some changes to the side however and one eye grabbing players comes in the shape of British forward David Longstaff. Coming off the back of a seven year stint with Elite League side the Newcastle Vipers, this 6'2 international player will undoubtedly look to make an impression on the Wildcat side.
It looks to be an enticing fixture between these two teams and hopefully with enough grit and determination from the home side, Swindon may well be able to take both points once the sixty minutes is up. Be sure to check 'The Lair' programme for Guildford's 'One to Watch' out on the ice as well as to catch up on our 'Retro Years' feature. We will be looking back to a previous encounter involving the two sides and seeing how it all shaped out.
