Brent Hughes

Dundee CCS Stars have signed 28 year old Canadian forward Brent Hughes from the Newcastle Vipers.

Stars' player/coach Dan Ceman said today, "I'm delighted that Brent has agreed to join us for next season, the qualities that he will bring to the team are competitiveness and tenacity, he's a proven point getter and an obvious leader on the ice, he's vastly experienced and is a player that can make his mark on the game, these are all the qualities I'm looking for in my team. He will no doubt be a big hit with the Dundee fans. He has captained several teams at a high level so he will clearly be an important player for us."

Brent, who was born 9 June 1982 in Toronto, Ontario, turned pro in 2003, joining the Central Hockey League's Austin Ice Bats. He then spent two seasons with the Amarillo Gorillas before joining the Colorado Eagles midway through the 2006-07 season and would go on to win the CHL Championship that season. In 2007 he moved to the new International Hockey League (formerly the United Hockey League), signing with the Port Huron Icehawks. In 2008, Hughes moved to the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League, signing with the Basingstoke Bison and remained in the Elite League last season where he played with the Newcastle Vipers.

Brent said, "I'm happy with this move, there's a big challenge here and I'm looking forward to linking up with Dan in his first stint as coach, this is going to be a big season for Dundee and I'm delighted to be a part of it."

Dundee's director of hockey operations said, "This is an excellent signing. Dan has done very well to bring Brent to Dundee for next year and the way things are going with the signings I'm sure the fans will be delighted and will be looking forward to the roster coming together."
