The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Chelmsford Chieftains had to endure another 2 tough games with a trip to the Isle of Wight followed up 24 hours later with a visit of the Bracknell Hornets over the weekend. Things started very badly for the Chieftains on the Island and found themselves 4-0 down after 1 period. Early in the second a 5th went in and the decision was made to switch netminders and Ben Clements replaced Euan King. Even that seemed to make little difference as the Raiders were on the rampage now and ran in 3 more goals before the break to lead 8-0 with 20mins to play. The Chieftains fought back as hard as they could in the third and 3 goals shared between Kyle Jones, BT Williams and James Ayling was too little too late, but it at least made the scoreline a bit more respectable.
On to Sunday and Aaron Connolly, fresh from his call-up to the GB U-18s team, picked up a loose puck early on against the Hornets and took it in close to the net and finished off the move nicely past David Wride to put the team 1-0 up. 5minutes later it became 2-0 when Connolly's perseverance paid off and at the third attempt the puck went past Wride. The Chelmsford side continued to dominate the Hornets and by the mid-way point they were showing some signs of tiredness and this allowed the Hornets to capitalise on a loose puck in front of King's net and it was 2-1. It could easily have been 2-2 at 31:36 when Tony Barclay was awarded a penalty shot but King stood tall and pulled off a good save to keep it at 2-1.
Early in the third it was 3-1 and the game was beginning to look like it was beyond doubt when Alex Green rifled a shot from the blueline into the top corner but the Hornets hit back quickly when Barclay fired in. The Chieftains thought they'd scored again moments later, but the goal was disallowed for the net being off it's moorings. Kyle Jones managed to make it 4-2 and many thought this would be it for scoring but back came the Hornets again at 53:42 when Carroll scored a nice goal and that was that.
Next week the Chieftains will be looking for 2 wins when the travel to Streatham Redskins on Saturday and the welcome MK Thunder to the Riverside on Sunday.
