Chieftains smash Redskins by 7

The Chelmsford Chieftains bounced back from disappointing defeats to Invicta Dynamos and Romford Raiders in their last two game with a demolition job on basement boys Streatham Redskins.
3 goals in under 2 minutes in the first period, including 2 in 10 seconds, set the story for the rest of the game as Danny Hammond, Alan Green and man of the match Darren Brown all fired past Stefan Nubert in the Redskins net with all 3 coming even-handed. Just after the midway point in the period former Chieftains defenceman Luke Reynolds took a 5+game misconduct penalty for high sticks on Danny Hammond that drew blood from the forward's cheek. Tom Long then netted late in the period to put the home side 4-0 up at the first break while the Redskins were still defending the man disadvantage following Reynolds's dismissal. Only one goal came about in the second period and that went to Hammond again for his second of the night. 3 goals in 3 minutes in the third period put pay to any hopes of a respectable comeback from the Redskins as firstly Alex Green fire home followed up by Michael Ranby and then Ross Brears got in on the act. A late consolation goal did get scored by British ice hockey veteran 'Storming' Norman Pinnington who put the puck past Ben Clements who otherwise only faced 21 shots all night, while Nubert at the other end faced 52 shots.
After the game the Chelmsford side were presented with the Essex Cup by Katie Williams of Grants SEAT and then the player of the month for January was awarded and the rightful recipient was former Redskin Michael Ranby who impressed in all his outings for the Essex side throughout January.
