Cloutier demands response
Excel Hull Stingrays player-coach Sylvain Cloutier wants to see a reaction from his players when they take on Newcastle Vipers at Whitley Bay in the Elite League tomorrow night.
Stingrays suffered a 9-0 thrashing by Belfast Giants last night, their eighth successive away defeat. It was also the fifth time they had been shut-out this season and Cloutier now wants to put things right this weekend – starting against Newcastle.
He said: “I need guys out there who want to play for 60 minutes, I can’t keep putting guys out there who are not doing their job. You can’t take nights off, we have seven games left and we need to get going for the play-offs.
“We have to respond in Newcastle tomorrow night. We match up well against them and have had some good games this season but we need to come out all fired up after the show we put on in Belfast.”
Stingrays then host Nottingham Panthers on Sunday and Cloutier is looking for his side to continue their fine recent form at Hull Arena, where they have won five of their last six games.
Five of Stingrays’ last seven games are on home ice and Cloutier said: “We have been playing well at home of late and we want to maintain that heading into the play-offs. It will give us some confidence for that home leg.”
Assistant-player coach Curtis Huppe missed the defeat to Belfast with a lower body problem but may be back this weekend. However, British forward Matty Davies (hernia) won’t ice.
