Cloutier left disappointed
Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier could not hide his frustration after Excel Hull Stingrays went down 5-2 to Nottingham Panthers at Hull Arena in the Elite League.
Stingrays, at full-strength for the first time this season, made a dreadful start and found themselves 2-0 down inside two minutes following goals from Bruce Richardson and Cameron Mann. The former then made in three but the home side got back into the game with two Lee Mitchell powerplay markers.
Jason Silverthorn, making his home debut on his comeback from a broken jaw, hit the crossbar before Dominic D’Amour and Sean McAslan finished off the scoring.
Cloutier said: “It was a bad start but we battled back into the game and if Silver’s shot had gone in it could have been a different game. I am very disappointed. I thought we played a decent game.
“They have an all-star line-up and they have put a good team together and you have to give them credit. But we are just as good as they are when we play five-on-five and disciplined hockey and not make those little mistakes. Tomorrow [against Coventry Blaze] is a big game for us, we need to rebound or it’s going to be a long week.”
