Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier insists it’s crucial Excel Hull Stingrays don’t leave Edinburgh Capitals empty-handed tomorrow night.

Stingrays, on the back of last Sunday’s penalty shoot-out win over Belfast Giants, went down 5-1 at home to Sheffield Steelers tonight while Capitals suffered their second defeat in as many nights when they lost 5-2 at Cardiff Devils.

Victory in Murrayfield tomorrow would move Stingrays to within two points of Edinburgh and Cloutier said: “It’s a must-win for us. We need to get something up there. We have to be ready because I know they will be. They won’t use their third game in three nights as an excuse. We need to jump all over them, go out there and get the two points.”

He added: “It was so frustrating against Sheffield. Every mistake we made ended in our own net. I thought we outplayed them and I don’t understand why I am the only one who thinks that. The scoreline doesn’t reflect that but their goalie made some big saves when he had to.”
