Excel Hull Stingrays player-coach Sylvain Cloutier will have an MRI scan next Monday to determine the severity of his knee injury.

Cloutier sustained the problem during the 5-1 defeat by Sheffield Steelers at Hull Arena last Saturday when he collided with a post. He subsequently missed the loss at Edinburgh Capitals and will also sit out when Stingrays head to Nottingham Panthers this Sunday.

He said: “I go for an MRI scan on Monday so I will find out more then. There is no tear but I have stretched the ligament so we have to wait to see what grade it is. Only then will I know if I can play against before Christmas.”

In Cloutier’s absence, Ukrainian defenceman Pavel Gomenyuk is expected to return at the National Ice Centre from a two-month lay-off with a broken rib. But Stingrays will be without Craig Mitchell and Matty Davies, who are on Great Britain Under-20 duty in the World Championship in Hungary.
