Excel Hull Stingrays player-coach Sylvain Cloutier will not play again until the new year after a scan revealed a grade two strain of his medial collateral ligament.

Cloutier sustained the problem during the 5-1 defeat by Sheffield Steelers at Hull Arena on December 5 when he collided with a post forcing him to miss the last two games.

The 35-year-old will also sit out this weekend`s encounters against Cardiff Devils and Nottingham and the double-header with Edinburgh Capitals and the home clash with Coventry Blaze over the festive period.

Cloutier said: “It`s a grade two strain which is normally three to five weeks. I have missed two weeks already so I am hoping to be back early in the new year. I am disappointed I got hurt especially as we are short-handed again. But it has given me a chance to coach and we now want to build on our performance in Nottingham last Sunday.”
