Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier saluted the performance of Pavel Gomenyuk on his return to the Excel Hull Stingrays line-up.

The Ukrainian defenceman was back after a two-month spell on the sidelines with a rib injury for the 4-3 defeat after penalty shots to Nottingham Panthers at the National Ice Centre.

Cloutier said: “Pash had an outstanding game and it did not look like he missed a step. He played like the Pash I know can play. He brings experience and calmness back there and he is good with the puck. It was good to have him back.”

Gomenyuk said: “I enjoyed it although I felt it a bit after the game. I managed to get through the game and help the team get a point. We played really well and I thought we deserved two points but one point is better than nothing.”

Meanwhile, Cloutier will have an MRI scan later today to determine the extent of the knee injury which has forced him to miss the last two Elite League games.
