In the last pre-season game before the league starts, Blaze were beaten at home against the Cardiff Devils. The defeat for the Blaze started early as Jon Pelle assisted by Max Birbraer and Scott Matzka, scored within 16 seconds of the first period. With the first goal coming so quickly, Devils looked more comfortable and confident with puck thoughtout the first period. With Blaze trying to catch up, they started playing offensively and managed to get two good shots from defenceman Brian Lee and forward Russ Cowley. However, despite having 14 shots on target, Stevie Lyle proved up to the challange by ending the first period with Devils maintaining the lead.

It was seven minutes into the second period before another goal was conceded. With Tylor Michel for the Cardiff Devils scoring an easy goal at 27:02 with Sam Smith picking up the assist. With Blaze now losing 2 - 0, they needed a goal to get back into the game fast. Thankfully, Brad Zanon soon closed the gap for the Blaze by scoring at 27:40 with assists coming from Dan Carlson and Jeff Smith. With Blaze now looking stronger, tempers started to rise. Soon, players started to lash out. While no fights occured in the game, there was plenty of pushing and shoving. With both netminders having a good game, forwards from both teams had a hard time scoring. With Jaeger making some great glove and stick saves, and Lyle forcing Luke Fulghum to hit nothing but the pipes, it was obvious to everyone that this was going to be a close game. The last goal came from Justin Sawyer at 34:43 with assists coming from Gerad Adams and Stevie Lyle.  As Sawyer finished his 2 mintue penalty he was left one on one with Blaze netminder, Brett Jaeger. While, plenty happened in the third period, the most controversial moment came towards the end of the game. Where a Blaze goal was disallowed by the elite league officials.
